S.W.A.T. Exiles

The police action drama that never gives up returns on a new platform, with one constant: Shemar Moore as the LAPD’s stalwart S.W.A.T. sergeant and team leader Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. The series, which survived several cancellation scares on CBS to last eight seasons, rebrands itself when Hondo is lured back to the job after two years of forced retirement to build a new tactical unit of young outcasts, each with something to prove. His crew includes 9-1-1: Lone Star‘s Ronen Rubinstein as the rebellious Jude, Lucy Barrett as the cocky influencer Sammy, Zyra Gorecki as Cassidy, who refuses to let her prosthetic leg hold her back, Freddy Miyraes as Ethan, the inevitable techie with a specialty in drone surveillance, and Adain Bradley as gung-ho Malik. While instilling a culture of discipline and trust as they go after cartel assassins, Hondo suspects someone’s setting them up to fail. So which one’s the mole?

Chilean Mine Rescue: Race Against Time

A gripping three-part docuseries uses never-before-shown cellphone footage to add urgency to this account of the 2010 disaster in which 33 miners were buried for 69 days nearly half a mile under Chile’s Atacama Desert when their copper-gold mine collapsed. Believed dead for the first 17 days, the miners sweated it out for 52 more as engineers and rescue teams from around the world worked to retrieve them. An estimated 1 billion people watched on TV as the men were reunited with their loved ones, and many of the survivors, family members and rescuers share their stories, some for the first time outside of local Chilean media.

Unabomber

The name evokes terror: the Unabomber, an anonymous menace who sent explosives through the mail in an orchestrated anti-technology campaign that killed three people and injured 23 more from 1978 to 1995, which only stopped when Ted Kaczynski was captured in 1996 after the FBI’s longest and most expensive manhunt. A docudrama from director Janus Metz stars Jacob Tremblay (the kid from 2015’s Room), portraying Kaczynski as a teenage mathematical prodigy subjected to controversial psychological experiments by one of his Harvard professors (Russell Crowe). The film dramatizes his transformation into a disaffected recluse and unfolds in a separate timeline, depicting the FBI manhunt led by agent Joanne Miller (Paradise Emmy winner Shailene Woodley).

Outlander: Blood of My Blood

History takes the lead over fantasy as the second season of the Outlander prequel heads closer to the 1715 Jacobite Rising against the British Loyalists. Bastard son Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) steps up to rally troops for Lord Lovat’s (Tony Curran) civilian army, even if it means crossing rival clan lines to pledge support to war chieftain Dougal MacKenzie (Sam Retford) — which at least might give Brian a little alone time with his forbidden soulmate Ellen (Harriet Slater). Across the time divide in 1924, an institutionalized Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) is desperate to get back to the 1700s and reunite with Julia (Hermione Corfield). The approaching festival of Samhain, when the veil is said to grow thin at the magical stones of Craigh na Dun, may be his best opportunity. But first he needs to figure a way out of the mental asylum.

The Great British Bake Off

Nigella Lawson joins Paul Hollywood to judge a baker’s dozen of 12 kitchen hopefuls when one of the world’s most beloved feel-good TV institutions presents what the streamer calls its 14th “collection,” with episodes airing weekly. The cast of amateur bakers, ranging in age from 21 to 67, includes a Birmingham drag king, a Bangladeshi pediatric doctor, a law student, and a competitive sprinter. They all have one thing in common: the hope that their tasty creations can rise to the challenge.
