Worth Watching — September 12, 2026

TV’s top-rated newsmagazine 60 Minutes returns for its 59th season under new management and renewed scrutiny. The Walking Dead: Dead City ends its third season with a showdown in the streets of Manhattan. TNT presents the docudrama High Value Target: The Hunt for Saddam. The US Open ends with the women’s and men’s semifinals.

60 Minutes

SUNDAY: The jewel in the CBS News crown, 60 Minutes has seen its reputation tarnished recently after bitter internal turmoil under new corporate management that led to the firing of correspondents Scott Pelley, Cecilia Vega, and Sharyn Alfonsi, along with several top producers amid allegations of editorial interference. This brings renewed scrutiny to the Season 59 premiere, led by former CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell‘s exclusive interview with the U.S. Air Force officer who was shot down over Iran last spring, describing his rescue after two days spent surviving and evading enemy troops on his own. Returning correspondent Jon Wertheim reports on the prospects of the Los Angeles Rams, a Super Bowl favorite, which lost their season-opening game against the San Francisco 49ers this week in Melbourne, Australia.

The Walking Dead: Dead City

SUNDAY: Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) have faced steep odds before during the zombie apocalypse. In the New York-set spinoff’s Season 3 finale, it’s just them and her son Hershel (Logan Kim) against a better-armed battalion of rebels led by the deranged Dillard (Jimmi Simpson), who fancies himself “the eccentric survivor, the architect of wonder.” The former cop, now back in uniform, is currently the biggest threat to Maggie’s vision of a thriving community within a revived metropolis. Even so, it’s a shock to hear her say to Negan, her former tormenter and murderer of her husband, that besides her son, “You are the closest thing to family I’ve got left.”

High Value Target: The Hunt for Saddam

SUNDAY: An eight-episode docudrama depicts the manhunt for former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in the early 2000s through the perspective of CIA analyst John Nixon — no relation to the disgraced former president. He’s played by For All Mankind‘s Joel Kinnaman as a somewhat nerdy crusader for truth, who helpfully reminds us that as awful as he was, Hussein (Waleed Zuaiter) had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks. His bosses mostly ignore his counsel, telling him, “The White House (of George W. Bush) only wants one thing and wants it now.” That would be evidence of weapons of mass destruction (which were never found) and the location of the despised despot, whom Nixon would eventually meet and interrogate face to face. But first, he has to argue his way into the field, which takes more than an episode in a pedestrian dramatization. The series, opening with two episodes, airs Sundays and Mondays through October 4.

US Open Tennis

SATURDAY: The pro tennis season’s final Grand Slam tournament ends with highly anticipated matches on the Arthur Ashe Stadium inside the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, Queens. Saturday’s match pits the Top 2 seeded women: No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and No. 2 Elena Rybakina. On Sunday (2 pm/ET, ABC), No. 1 Alexander Zverev faces No. 8 Ben Shelton , the first U.S. man to reach the Open final since Taylor Fritz lost to Jannik Sinner in 2024. (No American man has won the final since Andy Roddick in 2003.)

Lanterns

SUNDAY: Sleepy Rushville, Texas becomes a battleground — and a fight for the future of the Lantern himself — in a thrillingly pivotal episode of the DC Comics-inspired superhero adventure. Now that the identity of the alien Manhunter-in-human-form has been exposed, and with Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) once again turning the tables on his trainee/replacement John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), the town becomes Ground Zero for an extraterrestrial showdown. Will anyone or anything be left standing? And who will be left wearing the magical ring of green?
