Has Lucky’s (Anya Taylor-Joy) lucky streak run out? In the chase thriller’s action-packed finale, the con artist comes face-to-face with arch-villain Wayne Whittaker (William Fichtner), who has her ex-con father John (Timothy Olyphant) in his clutches and demands she turn over the millions she stole, a fortune only she has access to. No longer in it for the money, Lucky just wants out, but she wants her and her dad to get out alive. Is that too much to ask? The twists never stop coming.

The Lion King comes to life in a captivating four-part nature documentary following the lion cub Kio as he grows into a position of leadership as a majestic adult. Filmed over four years in Kenya’s Maasai Mara game reserve with director Jon Favreau (the live-action Lion King) and BBC Studios Natural History Unit’s creative director Mike Gunton at the helm, Lion captures Kio’s evolution in a cinematic narrative with music from Hans Zimmer and narration by O.J. Lynch, a Lion King stage veteran. The series launches with two episodes, with the remainder premiering Aug. 26. (All four chapters can be streamed Thursday on Disney+ and Hulu.)

The doctors of The Pitt probably wouldn’t approve of patients filming their own emergency room experiences, but a new docuseries takes advantage of this footage in a you-are-there reality series showing actual cases in real time from ERs across the country. Accompanying the images: analysis from doctors and surgeons, explaining each situation and the split-second life-and-death decisions made by the medical pros. The opener features a Utah animal trainer who’s attacked by an alligator and a woman who discovers she has two uteruses and is airlifted to her Long Island hospital when she goes into labor at 30 weeks.

Josh Gates travels to historic Nottingham, England, a region associated with Robin Hood folklore, for Season 12’s two-part opener. Joined by scientist Phil Torres and paranormal investigator Heather Amaro, Gates explores underground caves, medieval dungeons, and the legendary Sherwood Forest to root out reports of ghostly apparitions and other spooky phenomena.

Coach Ted (Jason Sudeikis) conducts open tryouts to fill some key positions on AFC Richmond’s women’s team, hoping to be surprised by new, raw talent. (A Susan Boyle analogy is lost on him, but not for long.) As the team begins to take shape, its future looks awfully precarious, with Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and Keely (Juno Temple) struggling to convince shareholders and sponsors to give the Lady Greyhounds a chance.

- Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (8/7c, ABC): Comedians Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel share the hot seat, followed by Awkwafina and director Paul Feig in the quiz show’s season finale.
- America’s Got Talent (8/7c, NBC): Find out who made it through the first night of quarterfinals and will move on to the next round. K-pop group NCT 127 performs.
- MasterChef (8/7c, Fox): Teams are separated by an eight-foot wall as they try to create identical dishes. Followed by a new episode of Nation’s Dumbest (9/8c).
- The Valley (8/7c, Bravo): The Season 3 cast reunion ends with a toast to Jasmine’s wedding to Melissa.
- LIVING ON: The Michael Cammarata Story (9 pm/ET, ESPN): An E60 special pays tribute to Michael Cammarata, a member of the 1991 Little League World Series team from Staten Island that went all the way to the U.S. Championship. He became a New York City firefighter and, at 22 years old, was the youngest member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty during the 9/11 attacks. He’s the only player whose Little League World Series number has been retired in his honor.
- The Shards (9/8c, FX): Debbie Schaffer (Hayes Warner) dreams of being named “Groover of the Week” on a local 1980s TV dance show. But the taping soon becomes a nightmare for the entire privileged gang.
- Resolve to Solve With Miles O’Brien (10/9c, PBS): The veteran TV journalist leans on his decades of covering science as he travels the world in a five-part docuseries revealing how scientists and other experts are tackling the world’s most pressing ecological issues. In the premiere, he reports on how a red seaweed could reduce cattle methane emissions and why beavers can be a buffer against drought and wildfire.
ON THE STREAM:
- Average Joe (streaming on Paramount+): Nothing average about Joe Washington (Deon Cole), whose family is uprooted to Cape Town, South Africa in the comedy thriller’s second season.
- Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing (streaming on Netflix): Documentarian Rory Kennedy revisits the corporation she first investigated in 2022’s Downfall: The Case Against Boeing, with new reporting following the sudden death of whistleblower John Barnett.
- Reacher (streaming on Prime Video): Congressman Sampson (Marc Blucas) explains his Delta Force past to a skeptical Reacher (Alan Ritchson), while Tamara (Sydelle Noel) breaks into a government building to retrieve a file connected to the all-important flash drive that everyone covets.
- Trying (streaming on Apple TV): Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall) head to Tuscany for a destination wedding, only to realize they may not actually have been invited. Awkward!
